I’m still finding my way through thriller books, and Sean Bridges’ Gunbarrel Highway definitely helped me along! This story is action packed from the very beginning. In this story, we come across an unfortunate accident where a down-on-his-luck Daniel chooses to leave the scene - snowballing a series of events that truly takes its twists and turns. A congressman puts a prize on Daniel’s head basically, and it creates a dramatic chase that takes the reader right along.

We learn a lot about Daniel as we accompany him on his escape. Bridges did a wonderful job writing the inner turmoil that Daniel is experiencing. I also loved reading about Roya Navarro, the strong and skilled female detective that is after Daniel. I am a big fan of relentless and masterly characters - but even more when those characters are women and especially when they are in fields or spaces where we would ordinarily see men/male characters.

I think it can be really easy for characters in thrillers to fall flat and stereotypical, but I did not find that to be the case in Gunbarrel Highway. I found the characters to be well-rounded and interesting - a big plus for a character-driven reader such as myself. Gunbarrel Highway was a thrilling read that kept me wanting to read it and see it through. I think lovers of thrillers and readers new to thrillers alike will truly enjoy this work.
