Review: Woods and Wings

MWD enjoys the quiet magic of early mornings spent world-building and shaping characters, all from his home in New Braunfels, Texas, where he lives with his family.
What an adventure it was to read Woods and Wings by M.W. Devers. It was truly a treat to read about the emotional journey of 15 year old Astraya Myna. Although I am probably not the age-target audience, it was a great adventure that took me back to the fantastical stories I used to read as a child and that I often revisit as an adult.
The world-building was beautiful and well-rounded and the characters! Characters are what draw me to stories to begin with and I felt that Devers did a gorgeous job with this band of adventurers. Having an alternating point of view between characters really helped flesh them out. Going along for the ride while Astraya, her brother, and their allies would be a lovely read for anyone, but I find myself wanting more women and young girls to pick this book up. I have a soft spot for strong female characters and Astraya is a character that I will definitely remember.
The fantasy genre in itself is a treat for readers of all ages and Woods and Wings would be a great intro to the genre as well as a beautiful one to revisit if it has been awhile since you’ve read a fantasy story.
